The $406 million Tillegra Dam will help secure the water future of the Lower Hunter region for the next 50 years.
Securing water for the Lower Hunter
The NSW Government's plan to secure the Hunter's water future involves recycling and water efficiency measures but these may not be enough to protect the region from the next severe drought. The new Tillegra Dam is a sustainable and cost effective option for increasing water supply to the region.
450 billion litre dam near Dungog
The new dam will be built in the upper Williams Valley to the north of Dungog. It will have a capacity of 450 billion litres – meeting the water needs of the Lower Hunter well into the latter half of the 21st century.
Providing for growth and climate change
In planning for the dam, we have taken into consideration the expected growth in the area – and the possibility of continued lower rainfall through climate change.
Water ready by 2013
The new Tillegra Dam is expected to be supplying water to the Lower Hunter by 2013.
Investing in a better future
The $406 million Tillegra Dam is an investment in the people of the Hunter Valley. It creates jobs now but also builds a foundation that will encourage more businesses to come to the area in the future.
