Artist's impression of Barangaroo development

The development of the Barangaroo site in East Darling Harbour will create up to 4,000 construction jobs, up to 22,000 ongoing operational jobs and further increase Sydney’s appeal to international businesses seeking to expand into Asia.

Sydney – the financial hub in South East Asia
Sydney is the financial capital of Australia, generating approximately 30 percent of the country’s GDP. By opening up new CBD space on the spectacular Sydney Harbour foreshore, Barangaroo can help enhance the city’s appeal to both Australian companies and international firms seeking to participate in the emerging Asian economy.

Barangaroo – Sydney’s last major CBD land development
Barangaroo is the most significant urban redevelopment in Sydney in decades. Adjoining Darling Harbour and on the north-western perimeter of the CBD, Barangaroo represents the last major CBD land available in Australia’s financial capital. It will help create:

  • Up to 508, 300 m2 of commercial, residential, tourism, retail and community space
  • Up to 398,000 m2 of commercial space
  • Up to 16,500 m2 of retail space
  • Up to 60,000 m2 of residential space
  • Up to 30,800 m2 of tourism space (if the maximum amount of commercial space is delivered).

Barangaroo - Creating jobs now and into the future
The Barangaroo development will provide a significant boost to the NSW economy through the creation of up to 4,000 construction jobs. However Barangaroo will deliver an even greater economic impact in the long term through the generation of up to 22,000 operational jobs and the fresh stimulus it provides to Sydney’s reputation as an international gateway.

Integrating Barangaroo
Barangaroo will be integrated into the city’s existing transport infrastructure to help realise the full potential of this exciting new addition to Sydney’s CBD. Measures include:

  • A Barangaroo-Wynyard stop on the CBD - Rozelle CBD Metro
  • A new ferry wharf
  • Pedestrian tunnel link to Wynyard station CityRail network.

Barangaroo – giving back to the people
Recognising the significance of the site’s history and location, plans for Barangaroo encourage Sydney’s residents to embrace the revitalised area with:

  • Approximately half of site dedicated to open space & public domain
  • A new Headland Park in sight of Harbour Bridge
  • A precinct exemplifying all aspects of environmental and social sustainability
  • The final link in 14km foreshore walk from Anzac Bridge to Woolloomooloo.

Building a better future
Barangaroo is another example of the way NSW is creating jobs for workers, opportunities for businesses and a bright, sustainable future for our state.
